When we arrived in San Francisco, our first stop was the famous Pier 39. Even though it was mid-June, the chilly wind made it feel colder than expected. Standing on the pier, our eyes traced the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and the silhouette of Alcatraz. The cold weather seemed to imbue the scene with a sense of detachment from time—a moment suspended in the cool breeze.

And then we heard them—the sea cats. Their loud calls were like people bargaining in a bustling market, competing for the last piece of fruit. These creatures, louder than the seagulls, joined the natural symphony: the wind’s whispering melody, the rhythmic waves, and the distant music from nearby shops and attractions. It all blended together in the lively atmosphere of Pier 39.

When You’re Going to San Francisco: From Gold Beach to the Golden Gate

Last year 2023, my husband and I embarked on an unforgettable adventure to San Francisco. Our first stop was Gold Beach city in Oregon, a coastal gem. The view from the mountains to the ocean was breathtaking. The salty scent of the ocean mingled with warm breezes, creating an otherworldly atmosphere. As I stood on the cliffs, gazing out at the vast expanse, I half-expected a dragon to soar across the sky, completing the fantasy scene. Perhaps, it was the magic of the place, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that mythical creatures might reveal themselves at any moment.

Gold Beach felt like a close-knit community, where everyone welcomed us. We stayed at the 101 Motel for one night. Leaving Gold Beach behind, we drove toward San Francisco. Ancient sequoias lined the road, leading us to the iconic Golden Gate Bridge.
